Due diligence is a time-consuming and complicated process that can waste time, delay deals, and create errors.
Typically performed before major transactions such as mergers, due diligence involves a large volume of documents and analysis.
But with Stack AI, you can create an AI agent to automate the process of due diligence. All you need to do is provide the company name, and the AI agent will take care of the rest.
In the following blog, we’ll show you how to build the Due Diligence AI Agent, and explain the benefits for finance teams.
Due Diligence: How It Works
Due diligence refers to the in-depth review and evaluation carried out by prospective buyers, investors, or stakeholders before completing major transactions—typically mergers or acquisitions.
Its primary objective is to gain a clear understanding of the target company’s financial health, legal standing, operational structure, and overall strategic value. It also aims to identify potential risks or liabilities that could impact the success of the deal.
Finance professionals often face several hurdles during this process. One common issue is that sellers may provide documentation that is outdated, incomplete, or disorganized. This can hinder progress and raise concerns about the company’s internal governance or transparency.
Additionally, these transactions usually operate under tight deadlines. While diligence needs to be thorough, accelerated timelines can result in overlooked issues. In some cases, sellers intentionally delay responses to maintain leverage or pressure buyers into finalizing the deal more quickly.
The exchange of sensitive information—such as financial data, intellectual property, and legal documents—across various stakeholders can also introduce security risks. Without proper controls in place, the possibility of unauthorized access or data leaks increases, particularly in regulated sectors.
Ultimately, due diligence is not just about validating a business opportunity—it’s also a key tool for identifying and mitigating risks.
AI Agent Overview: Due Diligence Agent
The Due Diligence Agent asks the user for the name of the company. This is the only input required from the user.
Once the user enters the company name, five separate LLMs output different responses, including:
Company size
Revenue in 2024
Key people
Business overview
Industry
Users can leverage the AI agent using a streamlined user interface. The responses are outputted in the UI in separate boxes.

Here’s a full overview of the AI agent.

How to Build the Due Diligence AI Agent
Here’s how to build the investment memo AI agent. First, make sure to sign up for a free Stack AI account.
Navigate to the account dashboard. Click ‘New Project’.

Click the ‘Workflow Builder’ option.

Launch the pre-built template called “Enhanced Due Diligence.”

This will launch a workflow featuring an input, 5 LLMs, and an output.

Let’s take a look at each component. The input asks the user to enter the name of a company.

The first LLM uses the Linkedin search tool to retain the size of the company.

The second LLM uses the Yahoo News Ticker and News Search to look up the revenue of the company in 2024.

The third LLM uses web search and LinkedIn search to understand the key people within the organization.

The fourth LLM uses web search to retrieve critical company information, and then provides a business overview of the company.

The fifth LLM uses the web search tool and the LinkedIn search tool to retrieve the industry the company is in.

The results from the LLM are displayed in separate output boxes.

Now go to the export tab to customize the UI.

Give your AI agent a name and a description.

Save the interface and launch the web application. Enter the name of a company. The company information will be displayed near-instantly.

With this AI agent interface, you can perform due diligence in seconds instead of hours.
